What is a "Tamed Racing Driver"?

Professional racing drivers are important for the one thing they do really well, which is to drive very fast and very consistently. But this has one big drawback as Jeremy Clarkson explains "racing drivers have tiny, little brains, and therefore worthless opinions and they are very dull, doctors actually call it Mansell Syndrome." And this is easily observed after nearly every racing event, when the drivers are interviewed and have press conferences. So this posed a problem when Top Gear needed someone to get consistent lap times, therefore needing a racing driver. The solution is to bring them out of their natural environment and tame them for use in a domestic environment. A large part of this, is to remove their ego since the biggest thing drivers have to talk about is themselves. The best way to do this, is to get rid of their identity, make them a generic unit with no face or name. Top Gear was the first to pioneer this and called their tamed racing driver the Stig. Who is the Stig?

The Stig is Top Gear's tamed racing driver. He sets lap times on their test track for most of the cars they review. Also, when there is something too dangerous for the presenters to drive, the Stig is the man to do it. Over the years, many rumors about him have came about and he has become a legend in his own right. The current white Stig is actually the second one Top Gear has had. The original black Stig wasn't perfectly tamed and still had a bit of an ego. This led to his demise when he attempted to drive a Jaguar up to 100mph on the deck of the HMS Invincible. He went well over 100mph and couldn't stop in time causing him to fly off the deck of the ship and into the Atlantic Ocean, his body was never recovered. Rather then cry about it though, they just tamed another racing driver and went on with the show.

Other Tamed Racing Drivers

The Stig's American Cousin
While the Top Gear presenters were on a road trip across the United States of America, they stopped at Moroso Motorsports Park to test which car they had bought was faster. Since none of them knew the track, they found a local tamed racing driver to do laps for them. This driver was the Stig's American cousin, who is like the Stig, but obese and seems to live in a trailer home at the track. He has a more laid back driving style then the Stig, which is well suited to the large American cars he drove.
The Stig's African Cousin
When the Top Gear presenters went on Safari in Botswana, they needed to compare their cars in a special rally stage. Being that they aren't rally drivers, they got a local tamed racing driver to do the laps. This driver was the Stig's African cousin, who has a helmet and gloves like the Stig's, but wears only a pair of Pumas and loincloth otherwise. He is a rally expert and has no problem throwing around a variety of different types of cars, but he does not have any patience for a car that won't start.
The Stig's Lady Friend
While on holiday in Spain at the Ascari Race Resort the Stig is seen relaxing in the pool on an inflatable raft. But he is not alone in the pool, in the background we see a female swimming with a race helmet on much like the Stig's, but only wearing a bikini and racing gloves. We can only speculate for now that this is another tamed racing driver that has some association with Ascari, the Stig, or both.
